Private Adult ADHD Assessments in the UK

Bernadette Ashton Founder of ADHD Lancashire

Clear guidance before you choose a private ADHD clinic

Considering a private ADHD assessment can feel overwhelming. Prices, waiting times, medication services and shared-care arrangements vary considerably between clinics.

ADHD Lancashire can help you understand what to look for, consider the potential ongoing costs and connect with a private assessment provider where appropriate.

ADHD Lancashire does not conduct ADHD assessments, diagnose ADHD, or provide medical treatment. I offer guidance about assessment pathways and can connect you with a private ADHD assessment provider where appropriate.

Shared-care support

Important: A private diagnosis does not guarantee that your GP will prescribe ADHD medication. Ask your GP about their shared-care policy before committing to a private assessment. If shared care is declined, you may need to continue paying privately for prescriptions, monitoring and reviews.

Not All Assessment Clinics Offer the Same Support

A diagnosis is only part of your journey.

Some clinics offer ongoing treatments, medication support and shared care guidance, while others provide assessments only.

Choosing carefully now can save time, money and frustration later.

What a Private ADHD Assessment Should Include

Before choosing a private ADHD clinic

Check that the provider:

  • Uses an appropriately qualified healthcare professional with specialist ADHD training.

  • Completes a full clinical and psychosocial assessment, not just a screening questionnaire.

  • Considers your developmental, medical and mental-health history.

  • Assesses how symptoms affect more than one area of your life.

  • Provides a comprehensive written diagnostic report.

  • Explains what is included in the initial price.

  • Can offer medication initiation and titration if required.

  • Provides ongoing monitoring and annual reviews.

  • Explains what happens if your GP declines shared care.

  • Has a clear complaints procedure and appropriate professional registration.

  • Is registered with the Care Quality Commission, where its activities require registration.

What Our Clients Say

Frequently Asked Questions

Can ADHD Lancashire diagnose me?

No. ADHD Lancashire provides information, assessment-pathway guidance and non-clinical ADHD support. Diagnosis and medical treatment must be provided by an appropriately qualified healthcare professional.

Is a private ADHD diagnosis recognised by the NHS?

A properly conducted private assessment may be clinically valid, but acceptance for NHS treatment or shared-care prescribing is not automatic. Ask your GP about local arrangements before booking.

Does the assessment price include medication?

Usually not. Assessment, titration appointments, prescriptions, medication, monitoring and annual reviews may be charged separately. Ask the clinic for a complete written cost breakdown.

Is shared care guaranteed?

No. A clinic can request shared care, but your GP decides whether to accept it. If it is not accepted, ongoing prescribing and monitoring may remain private.

How quickly can I be privately assessed?

Availability varies. Some appointments may currently be available within two weeks; please enquire for the latest information.
